Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) The United States Department of Education (DOE) states, "In the 21st century, graduating from high school prepared for postsecondary education and careers means having a solid grounding in the science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) field." Program Overview The goal of the Leadership for Educational Equity program is to prepare future leaders for social justice and equity in P-20 and community-based education contexts who can effectively translate research into practice, influence policy, use data effectively in decision making, and organize individuals and groups to address challenges collaboratively and successfully. The Doctor of Education Degree (EdD) is a practice-based, doctoral level program for professional leadership in P-20 or community-based educational contexts. The EdD will prepare leaders within the profession to address complex educational challenges by combining decision-focused analytic and research skills with a broad-based understanding of systems anchored in principles of social justice and equity and access to public education. This program reflects a cohort model, with courses scheduled to be convenient for your busy life; courses will generally be offered in weekend, hybrid (part face-to-face, part online), online, and/or summer intensive formats. Students applying to this program must be prepared to join and follow their cohort in taking the prescribed coursework and experiences for three consecutive years. We welcome applications from individuals with master's degrees, at least a 3.2 graduate-level GPA, five or more years of experience in an appropriate P-20 or community-based educational context, and a strong interest in exploring problems of educational practice or pressing questions through inquiry in the EdD program. We are accepting applications from September 1 through November 1, 2009, for a Summer, 2010 start.
