APS-DU Leadership Academy 2012

DU Executive Leadership for Successful Schools at APS begins June 2012

The University of Denver, Morgridge College of Education continues the partnership with Aurora Public Schools to offer a revised principal preparation program beginning in June, 2012 called the Executive Leadership for Successful Schools (ELSS). The format has changed from weekly class meetings to a blended online design that consists of online discussions, journals, 2-3 Saturday workshops per quarter held in APS or on the DU campus (depending on enrollment), and the completion of an inquiry project with each of the four modules. The 30-quarter-hour program is designed to be completed in one calendar year. Accepted candidates that begin in June, 2012 will complete the program at the beginning of June, 2013.

Executive Leadership for Successful Schools is designed to prepare school and district leaders who have the complex knowledge, skills and understanding needed to lead effective schools. We approach this preparation through use of evidence-based practice to focus on inclusive excellence, 21st century teaching and learning, and transformational leadership. Graduates will understand school-wide issues as well as community and district contexts, and will be able to communicate and lead to ensure a successful educational experience for all students. Learning is fostered through a blended program of interactive online study, weekend cohort workshops held on the APS campus, and an integrated Internship. The program is aligned to meet current state and national standards for educational leadership excellence.

Applications are now being accepting for June 2012.
