Science Philosophical Assumptions
The Aurora Public Schools science curriculum provides students with opportunities to explore and construct the meaning of scientific phenomena. With the advancements of science and technology affecting every aspect of our society, our goal is to develop scientific literacy for all students.
In Project 2061 the American Association for the Advancement of Science states that scientifically literate students will:
- become familiar with the natural world, its diversity, and interdependence
- understand the big ideas of earth, physical, and life sciences
- know that science, technology, and mathematics are interdependent human enterprises that have strengths and limitations
- use skills and practices of inquiry through the scientific process
- think creatively, critically, and scientifically when solving problems, working cooperatively, using technology effectively, and valuing lifelong learning
- communicate intelligently on topics of scientific and technological concern
- use scientific knowledge and thinking patterns for personal and social purposes
