CAO Notes
Dear APS staff,
I am very honored and grateful to serve as the new Chief Academic Officer in Aurora Public Schools (APS)! Over the past few weeks, I have had the opportunity to meet with the division of instruction staff and school district principals. I have also been able to visit a few schools with an overall goal of visiting all schools within my first 60 days. Meeting and collaborating with staff across the district has reinforced my enthusiasm, excitement, and passion to serve in APS. I have always been a champion of urban education. More specifically, I respect and admire the educators and staff who chose to work and serve in urban school districts. We face many challenges and I acknowledge this is the hardest work in public education, but it would be remiss of me if I did not say, our work is the most rewarding. Our students need and deserve the best and the brightest educators serving them. It is for those reasons, I thank you for not only allowing me to serve in this district, but for each and every one of you for choosing to serve in APS. I believe from my core that our students are capable of achieving and can compete against any student in any district or state. This can only be achieved if we are committed and diligent in our efforts to ensure we provide our students with the absolute best educational opportunity available.
After meeting with Superintendent Barry and Deputy Superintendent Stuart, I have developed an entry plan which highlights my first 90 days on the job. Additionally, the plan’s introduction highlights two principles I believe in strongly (relationships and high expectations). Transparency is critical to the success of any organization. In my commitment to remain transparent in my work, I have attached my 90 day entry plan. My desire is to keep communication clear and assist my new APS family in their overall understanding of the approaches and key principles that guide my work.
I look forward to meeting with each of you to learn more about the great work you are doing on behalf of all students in APS!
Yours in educating all students,
Tammy Clementi, PhD
